September is Hunger Action Month!
September is Hunger Action Month, when the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks unites to urge individuals to take action in their communities. It is our opportunity to create a movement that has a real and lasting impact on our mission to help end hunger in America.

Join us this September. As individuals, charities, businesses and government,  all have a role to play in getting food to those in need. We readily recognize and whole-heartedly appreciate the awe inspiring support we receive throughout the year. However, by highlighting an entire month, we hope to provide other groups and individuals an opportunity to follow your lead and support our mission to "Feed Hope Across Alabama"!

Take Action!
**All submissions for the Art/PSA Competition should be sent to the MPS Communications Department.

Montgomery Area Food Bank and Montgomery Public Schools joined together to allow staff and students an opportunity to take “Action” by wearing a Hunger Action Month sticker on Hunger Action Day,September 4, 2014. They did much more than simply raise awareness, they raised $6,667 or 43,335 meals to fight hunger. We invite you to raise awareness all month long and take action for hunger awareness! There are no limits to the imagination and ingenuity found in our supporters, from volunteering and taking a #helpie, to hosting your own Food/Fund Drive, to donating your social media status,
your support is necessary to make Hunger Action Month a nationwide success!

Montgomery Public Schools Take Action
This year, we are increasing our awareness through Montgomery Public Schools by inviting
students to participate in our '$10,000 Art/PSA Contest'. Students will have the opportunity to show
the public how they interpret our selected theme of "How Does Child Hunger Hurt?”
Montgomery Public Schools will make the first selection—down to the Top 21.
Then Top Three in each selected category will be selected by a panel consisting of
members of the Montgomery Advertiser, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts,.
Once the Top Three are chosen You will pick the winners!
Voting can be done through our Facebook page through which entries get the most “likes”.

Sticker Power

Montgomery Area Food Bank and Montgomery Academy will also be joining together to close Hunger Action Month with a flourish. Montgomery Academy staff and students will be wearing the bright ORANGE,“I Support Hunger Action Month” stickers on September 30, 2014 to show their support.
Fight Hunger, Spark Change
Starting September 15th the Montgomery Area Food Bank is asking you to take “Action” in the
form of a vote! We are competing with food banks across the nation for a $60,000 grant from the
Walmart Foundation’s Fight Hunger/Spark Change campaign. These grants will be awarded on
the basis of your votes. Are you ready to take “Action” during Hunger Action Month!
There’s an old political adage, “Vote Early, and Vote Often,” and in this case, once voting starts on
September 15th - you can almost do exactly that. Voting is limited to one vote per day, but you
can vote every day until October 5th.

If Montgomery is going to stand a chance against cities with considerably larger populations, we’re
going to have to get creative and get the voters to the polls.Pass the word that taking “Action” during Hunger Action Month is as easy as voting for Montgomery Area Food Bank..
Lead by example, and Fight Hunger, Spark Change!

Cast your vote here!
Thank you for your support!

The food bank is thrilled to acknowledge and thank all Montgomery Public School students and staff who literally took “Action” during Hunger Action Month. Hopefully their participation and willingness to lead by example has touched others as much as it has touched and inspired everyone at the food bank!
At the Montgomery Area Food Bank we like to say that our mission Feeds Hope Across Alabama. But today, we’re proud to say, that job has been done by the students of Montgomery Public Schools. Well Done, you are inspiring!

We'd also like to thank our contest sponsors, and all of the participating organizations for making this year's Hunger Action Month the most successful to date!
