Throughout the month of September, Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB) will join the nationwide observance of the 10th Annual Hunger Action Month. Actually, to be accurate, we decided to start a little early this year, because on Tuesday August 29th the corporate leadership of Publix Super Markets, Publix Super Markets Charities and Foundation flew in to Montgomery to personally deliver a $150,000 donation and announce a $5 Million commitment to Feeding America network food banks and agencies within the Publix service area.
The main goal of Hunger Action Month (HAM) are participation and raising awareness of hunger within our own neighborhoods. Once again sharing images on Social Media will be a key element of your participation.
MAFB is asking YOU to take a moment and gather a plain paper plate and a marker. Then; consider how it must feel to live with an empty stomach, which puts a healthy life and a promising future at risk. Taking Action in this case - translates to sharing a personal message. That message should address "On an empty stomach I can't..." or “I can end hunger by...".
Simply write your message on a plain white paper plate and post an image of you holding that plate on#FeedingHopeAL, #FeedingAmerica and/or on @MontgomeryAreaFoodBankInc; @FeedingAmerica. You can do this with co-workers, classmates, your family or all by yourself!, but PLEASE, do it.
Hunger Action Day®, is always the second Thursday in September, which this year is September 14th.
It’s true: There seems to be a month or day devoted to one cause or another nowadays. However, it’s also true, One in Five people in the Montgomery Area Food Bank’s service area remains Food Insecure – meaning at one time throughout last year weren’t sure where their next meal would be coming from. Considering MAFB’s service area spans 24, 921 square miles with Partner Distribution Organizations (PDO) in Dothan, Selma, Auburn and Tuscaloosa -giving MAFB an extended reach to more than 800 local community agencies...those totals can add up to a sizable number very quickly.
